In quest to develop young writers in Primary and Secondary Schools, A 200 level Student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, and the Director, Speaking Pen International Concept, Abegunde Sunday was for 2 weeks at different schools in Lagos State and Ogun State orienting the Students on how to become a writer now and in future.

These two talented children will have their writing sponsored by Caprecon Development Foundation (UK) and Speaking Pen International Concept.

Speaking to reporters after the 2 weeks programme, Abegunde said, “I think that every Nigerian child really needs to be given a chance to liberate their talents like this, and have their moment where they can benefit from a programme being brought into their school, where they are the central focus of attention, Young people in Nigeria are extraordinarily motivated and enthusiastic forces for the future of Nigeria, and enabling them to become empowered is a crucial mission that he takes very seriously".

He also said the Nigeria Children deserve to be rewarded for their great capacity to overcome obstacles and to reach their goals through sheer hard work and determination. Speaking further, Abegunde Sunday said he believes that we were all born with two hands, one to help others and one to help ourselves. HINT ON WINNING WRITTEN POETRY CONTESTS

My definition of a contest is a search for the best among the rest.
I have been a curator for a couple of anthologies and thus have seen a whole lot of poems. I am in no way proclaiming myself an angelic but i sensed there are a couple of things i assumed everyone knows but was discovered some actually do not know. Hence, i would gladly share:
1. Read and understand the instructions in the call for submission: Ask the curator questions (that is after you've actually read). Many poets jump to submit without thoroughly reading instructions of the curator.
2. Grammar error: Poetry contests demands some degree of being formal. You should re-read your entry and probably have one or two of your friends read it before submission. You chances of winning is decreased when the judges find grammatical error.
3. Biography: Make your biography short and down-to-earth. Write your biography in third person pronoun e.g. don't say 'I am Abegunde Holt, a zealous poet and public speaker' instead say 'Abegunde Holt is a zealous poet and public speaker'. That is you write it as though you are someone else writing of you.

(I will add to this list as we go on)

Thank God For Unanswered Prayers

Thank God For Unanswered Prayers

On Monday, I was done with my work for the day by
noon. I got a PING! From my sister in school at Osun
state reminding me of the bucks needed to be sent to
her unfailingly that Monday as Tuesday would be too
late. Gamzook! I zoomed off to board a bus journeying to
GTB Bank at Pako , Ipaja which was actually the
nearest to my work place. The bus sets out.
Mid way to the bank, I caught a glimpse of the time on
my phone. Alas! It's 4:17pm already. It's indubitable
that banks in Nigeria closes by 4:00pm. I suddenly muttered 'Driver, I need to alight right here right now'.
All passengers fixed their gaze at me in surprise.
But amazingly, the driver was probably deafened by
his concentration on the wheel that he actually didn't
hear me or pretends not to. I kept mute and continued with the journey since I had
paid the fare already. What a waste of time journeying
to my destinated bus terminal when I was rest
assured the bank had closed and was almost
saddened how I disappointed my dear sister who is
dire need of the money. She ping me asking where if I made it to the bank. I replied 'on my way there'. Disappointedly she replied, 'it's past 4 already'.
The bus eventually got to my destination, Pako Bus
stop. I alighted and quickly move at the speed of
towards the bank I supposed have closed. But alas! A
couple of persons were still allowed in by the
automatic door. Wow! I was one of such persons. My joy knew no bound. I blessed God the driver didn't
stop. I then wonder, there are times God is driving us to our
destination and we pray otherwise. He ignores such
prayers. Just don't blame Him. He sees the end from
the beginning. I decree in Jesus name, you shall laugh at last! Praise
awaits God over your situation in Jesus' name!
