Let’s begin! Introduce yourself to the house sir. Tell the house about yourself and your early life. And what you do?

OKPARA EMEKA MCCOY:
My full name is Okpara Innocent Emeka. I am a medical doctor, fully trained in Uniport, and I have keen interest in creative writing, youth development and politics.

Interesting... When did you first know you wanted to become a writer?
OKPARA EMEKA MCCOY:
I started writing soon after I started reading with appreciable level of understanding. I had this uncle who was a school principal and his children challenged me to read voraciously. I made my first attempt to write a story after reading 'people are living there', and since then, as early as the age of 10, I knew I was going to be a writer some day. And I vowed to be a good one. That resolve led me to taking an online course in creative writing when I was in Year 3 in medical school.

Where did you get the inspiration to write HIDDEN HALOES?

OKPARA EMEKA MCCOY:
The inspiration for Hidden Haloes was drawn from my immediate environment in the Dline line area of Port Harcourt. I lived in an area where there were many young children whose future spelled the word 'unpredictable' in a negative way. These were children living in the lowest rung of the societal lather and no one cares as far as I could see. I needed to tell a story of hope to/about them!

What do hidden haloes mean sir?

OKPARA EMEKA MCCOY:
Haloes are the circle of light around the head of saints which signify 'glory'. Some the children I mentioned earlier, unlike their counterparts from rich homes who we could easily guess were heading somewhere, had their haloes hidden, hence HIDDEN HALOES.

Cool! What do you do in your spare time?

OKPARA EMEKA MCCOY:
In my spare time I play chess, play soul music and sing along, really loud! I also read all sorts of stuff. I also love discussing politics. I've been an active member of 'the arena' and 'the parliament' which are small gatherings where my colleagues in med. school and then BMSH discuss topical national issues and debate possible solutions.

Wow...! I love chess too and scrabble! You are parliamentarian on campus right? How did you blend it up with your highly demanding medicine course sir?
OKPARA EMEKA MCCOY:
